O Festim dos Corvos (A Feast for Crows, 2005, 608 pgs) é o tijolo 4 d'As Crônicas de Gelo e Fogo de George R.R. Martin, que inspirou a série Game of Thrones.

O banquete do título são os milhares de cadáveres que restaram das batalhas e golpes anteriores. Como rainha-regente, Cersei (minha vilã preferida) inicia uma cadeia de decisões tempestivas, após os assassinatos de seu pai e do filho rei, enquanto as coisas vão cozinhando ao redor. Outras personagens que vão se desenvolvendo são Arya, Jaime, Brienne (cujo arco resulta em algo bem diferente da TV), Sam e Sansa.

Pra quem não conhece (há dois anos, eu era dos poucos que ignorava completamente até o seriado), os livros formam uma das mais amadas séries de fantasia, ao lado do Senhor dos Anéis de Tolkien. Nunca li Tolkien (pretendo corrigir isso em breve), mas em …

Pra quem não conhece (há dois anos, eu era dos poucos que ignorava completamente até o seriado), os livros formam uma das mais amadas séries de fantasia, ao lado do Senhor dos Anéis de Tolkien. Nunca li Tolkien (pretendo corrigir isso em breve), mas em relação às adaptações cinematográficas, prefiro imensamente mais Game of Thrones (gosto até do odiado final). Tanto que fui pros livros.

O último que li foi há uns 18 meses. A série de sete livros planejados ainda só tem cinco. George está 13 anos atrasado para entregar o sexto. Quis esperar um pouco para ver se diminuía a incerteza sobre a conclusão, além de que cada tijolo tem mil páginas (na versão de bolso em inglês). No Kindle, a previsão de cada volume é 40 horas de leitura, sendo que um livro de 270 pgs costuma somar sete horas.

Ou seja, estava adiando continuar a série porque cada volume equivale a cinco livros, além da incerteza sobre quando (ou se) a saga terminará.

Mesmo assim, vale a pena. Exige mais, claro, mas a recompensa é proporcional. Devido à densidade, é daquelas estórias que transportam quase fisicamente.

E pra quem amou a série nas telas, é como se a coisa continuasse, porque há muito mais estória, além da profundidade. Por exemplo, Catelyn, a mãe dos Stark, tem um destino diferente do que o que se viu na TV. Além de Brienne e várias outros fatores (que mencionei nas resenhas anteriores).

Neste livro em particular, aparece, por exemplo, algo interessante que nem foi mencionado na TV: como, nos séculos passados, a ordem dos Meistres gradualmente foi rejeitando, expurgando e enterrando mistérios que não podia controlar com sua ciência. Os Outros, os dragões e a feitiçaria inspirada por R'hllor acabam sendo a contrapartida dessa forçada racionalização do mundo.

Li a versão em inglês. Até tentei no segundo volume a tradução, mas como estava acostumado com os nomes dos lugares em inglês, não deu pra me adaptar.
