Review of 'Dark Matter' on 'Storygraph'

The first half of this book is slow and filled up with clichés. However, the second half becomes interesting, thrilling and surprising.

Catherine Webb: Notes from the Burning Age (2022, Little, Brown Book Group Limited)

Review of 'Notes from the Burning Age' on 'Storygraph'

Some very interesting ideas: a mindful society that has converted sustanibility into a religion.  Long descriptions with interesting comparissons with nature.

Some quotes:
"Grief never leaves, but life layers itself on top of the pain, time forming fresh scabs over bleeding wounds"

"idealists, to see the light in all things"

Honestly, this book has my heart. My entire heart. The way the author has unfolded …

Review of 'Spanish Love Deception' on 'Storygraph'

After a silly and slow start, I got to feel the butterflies in the stomach for Lina. The story also got more and more interesting.

Review of 'Duct tape parenting' on 'Storygraph'

The philosophy behind the book is very interesting, however the book could be clearer with specific examples on what to do in difficult situation such as the kid insulting an adult or something along those line. Not interfering then sounds wrong, but it might be my bias. In any case, great ideas! Hands off to let the kids learn from their mistakes and create a family plan listening to the needs to the kids.

Think and don't react.

Misbehaving kids are discoraged kids.

Review of 'Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes (a Hunger Games Novel)' on 'Storygraph'

Page turner filled with cruelty, that makes you think about what is the essence of humanity.

Review of 'Marrón' on 'Storygraph'

Unas memorias con momentos duros pero contadas con humor. Sobre migrar, el sentirse desubicada, el privilegio y el racismo

Nicola Yoon, KARINE SUHARD - GUIE: The Sun is Also a Star (Hardcover)

Review of 'The Sun is Also a Star' on 'Storygraph'

I felt in love with them and felt their pain. Bits of science and bits of time travelling. Peering also into the whole lives of other characters, made this a rich novel about people that live and sometimes migrate.

Míriam Hatibi: Mírame a los ojos (Paperback, PLAZA & JANES)

Review of 'Mírame a los ojos' on 'Storygraph'

Alice Oseman: Solitaire (Paperback, 2018, HarperCollins Children's Books)

Review of 'Solitaire' on 'Storygraph'

We follow Tori, who doen't care or feel much, except for maybe two people. Secondary school and being a teoubled teenager in the UK.

Quote I liked:
"Why don't you go home and complain about it  on your blog like normal people?"

Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie: Americanah (2014, HarperCollins Publishers Australia)

Americanah is a 2013 novel by the Nigerian author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, for which Adichie …

Review of 'Americanah' on 'Storygraph'

I think this is a necessary book to understand racism in it’s multiple forms, many subtle to those not suffering it. Black hair as an example of my ignorance and as a example pf how deep is the believe system set around race.
I loved the account of migration stories to the States and to Britain. Feeling like an outsider everywhere, struggling with the cultural nuisances. And then, the stories of being pushed to the limits of a person until it breaks.
I could not relate and got a bit bored with some of the parts of the life in Lagos, but that’s just one side of all those that compose the life of Ifemelu.

Some quotes:

  • “she had not had a bold epiphany […] it was simply that layer after layer of discontent had settled in her, and formed a mass that now propelled her”.
  • “what she would …
Sara Soler: Us (Hardcover, spagnolo language, 2022, ASTIBERRI EDICIONES)

Review of 'Us' on 'Storygraph'

La memoria de una pareja que se enfrenta a la transición de una de ellas. Nos hablan de empatía y de escuchar a las personas que nos rodean, en clave de humor.
La idea más importante que saco de esta memoria es que las historias de transiciones son únicas para cada persona.
