Shevek cree por encima de todo que los muros del odio, la desconfianza y las ideologías, que separan su propio planeta del resto del mundo civilizado, tienen que ser derribados. En este contexto, Ursula K. Le Guin explora hábilmente algunos de los problemas más urgentes de nuestro tiempo: la posición de la mujer en distintas estructuras sociales, la complejidad de las relaciones humanas, los méritos y promesas del socialismo y el anarquismo, y las perspectivas del idealismo político en el mundo actual.
It's a fascinating work of speculative fiction that explores the ideas around systems of self-governance (or lack thereof), written by a brilliant thinker and writer. Some of the passages in this novel are so achingly beautiful they could turn even a salty borderline-nihilist into an idealist - even if only for a few very pretty moments.
Good:
Speculative fiction at its finest.
Great society & world building, shown through a lens of a single life.
Two timelines nicely intertwine & support each other.
The scenes of hardship & revolution resonate deeply.
* Evokes the feeling of classic Sci-Fi without any problematic elements often associated with it.

Ok, this is now one of my favourite novels. It has everything I like and then some: science fiction setting, political theory, feminism. And sprinkles it without proselytizing. Different people will be moved in disparate ways by this book.
