Rebecca Solnit: Men Explain Things to Me (2014, Haymarket Books)

I must say that I really enjoyed this book.

I got it kindly recommended after some (unpleasant) discussions on Twitter about feminism and sexism, and I'm very glad that at least I got this as "something good" from it.

As a white cishet man, unless you're already very familiar with this topic, you have to read it in a very open-minded way. Some assertions might make you feel attacked or uncomfortable, but I think it is worthy to read it leaving all your ego aside. I'm sure we all can learn a lot from it (I hope I did it).

Surprisingly, I only disagreed with a couple of sentences. In a 140 pages book, that looks amazing to me :-)

I specially enjoyed the Woolf's part and the last chapter, "Pandora's box". Very powerful analysis and reflections.

I think it's specially good that the writer communicates very well, she uses …

I think this book can be a good trigger for starting freeing space from both your home and your mind.
In my case, I found within it the perfect "excuse" for donating lot of stuff that I really don't use/need anymore.

I also think the same message could have been transmitted using a half of the pages :-)

Pankaj Mishra: An End to Suffering (Paperback, 2005, Picador)

Review of 'An End to Suffering' on 'Goodreads'

Disclaimer: Probably my rating would have been higher if I had not read any other book about Buddhism (history or philosophy) beforehand.

It's a book with a mix of history (the history of Buddhism, the context where it was born, about India), the connection with other philosophers and religions, and also the Buddhist philosophy itself.

I liked it. Maybe too much in-depth details about the context, but obviously it's very personal.

Despite the 3 stars, I would recommend it :-)

Simplemente GENIAL.

Review of 'Martes con mi viejo profesor' on 'Goodreads'

Interesting book, though a little bit below my expectations (hhmm... always the expectations...).

In the edition I read, I found more interesting than the novel, a brief essay from Ursula K. Le Guin: I didn't know this writer and discovering her has been a great surprise.

Alistair Cockburn: Surviving object-oriented projects (1998)

Review of 'Surviving object-oriented projects' on 'Goodreads'

Even if the book is 18 years old, I found it really interesting.

Because of its "age", and after the Agile Manifesto and all the movements/frameworks/practices which came afterwards, some ideas don't look the best ones nowadays.
Despite that, I think it's a book worthy reading :-)
