I'm sure this book had a unique approach when it was published, but to be honest, the scientific foundations presented to argue the existence of the martians were not convincing. Also, the further I read the more I realized that the book was more about humanity and its problems as a society than about an alien invasion.

Also, the ending did not convince me. That such bloodthirsty and cruel martians died because of some bacteria did not seem right to me. After reading such a short but intense novel, it just seemed a poor and inadequate ending for these creatures.
